County Hall, Haverfordwest, flies flag for Armed Forces Day

The armed forces flag is flying outside County Hall in Haverfordwest in advance of Britain's first Armed Forces Day tomorrow (Saturday).

Members of the armed services together with members of the Pembrokeshire branch of the Royal British Legion gathered outside County Hall for a flag-raising ceremony on Monday.

The nation's first Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for Britain to show support for servicemen and women, from veterans to recruits, from currently-serving troops to service families.

Council Chairman, Councillor Anne Hughes, paid tribute to the forces, noting that since the Second World War more than 16,000 British servicemen and women have died in action somewhere in the world.

Reverend Geoffrey Eynon, the Royal British Legion county chaplain, led the gathering in prayer.

Those attending included members of the 14th Signal Regiment (EW) stationed at Cawdor Barracks, Brawdy, which has seen action in Afghanistan, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Colonel Dai Davies.
