A large scale search for a lost and disorientated woman in the Milford Haven area took place last night.
The 28-year-old woman had come to Milford Haven for the carnival and stayed for the weekend.
On Sunday night she had gone out with people from the area but became separated from them near Gelliswick Bay.
At 10.15 last night she rang the police saying that she was cold and lost. It was dark and raining and she did not have a torch and only had limited connectivity on her phone.
Police contacted Milford Haven coastguards who immediately initiated a full scale search. Both Angle lifeboats were launched and RAF rescue helicopter 169 from Chivenor scrambled to the scene.
Dale and Broad Haven coastguard rescue teams were also tasked to the incident. Preseli coastguard sector manager managed to contact the woman on her mobile and though questioning ascertained that she was in the Gelliswick area, near the fort.
The RAF rescue helicopter was then able to locate her and airlifted her to Hakin Rugby pitch where she was met by police.
She was taken to Withybush Hospital for a check up, as she was suffering from the cold, before being taken to her home in the Fishguard area.
"The woman did the right thing by contacting the police," said a spokesman for Milford Haven coastguard.
"This was a good example of a multi agency rescue. "All the emergency services worked well to locate the casualty and evacuate her safely."
