4:53pm Monday 6th July 2009

Fishguard lifeboat was launched yesterday (Sunday) afternoon to the aid of a 56-year-old windsurfer in difficulty off Newport Sands.

Initially an RNLI lifeguard went to his aid. She managed to get the man, together with his windsurf board and rig, into a small cove off the main beach.

Although the windsurfer was now safe he still needed assistance to get himself and his equipment back to the main beach.

Fishguard's inshore lifeboat was launched at 3.30pm and the three volunteer crew took the man onboard and delivered both him and his equipment back to Newport Sands.

no danger he did need a and this resulted in the ILB being turned out at 3.30pm by the Coastguard. Once on scene the crew of three volunteers delivered the windsurfer and his rig safely back to the main beach.
