Manorbier coastguards called to boat in trouble off Lydstep

6:40pm Monday 6th July 2009

Several members of the public dialled 999 on Saturday afternoon, on seeing a red distress flare fired from off Lydstep Haven.

The flare had been let off by the two crew of the 23 foot motor boat Laughing Girl, after the boat had gone over a large wave and its engine cutting out.

The boat lost power and began drifting towards the rocks at the eastern side of Lydstep Haven.

The owner of the vessel, who had his young son onboard, eventually managed to get the Z-drive engine started and limped the vessel back to its moorings at Lydstep .

Manorbier coastguards were tasked to the scene. They met the skipper and offered suitable safety advice.
