Sasha died from stab wounds to the heart, court hears

Teenager Sasha Jones suffered 22 separate injuries and died from two stab wounds to the heart, a jury heard today (Thursday).

Pathologist Dr Andrew Davison, who was giving evidence in the murder trial of the 17-year-old’s father, Gary Fisher, said she had been stabbed in the face, chest and thigh and bled to death.

Fisher, 48, from Solihull, West Midlands, denies murdering his daughter in a Cardigan car park.

Dr Davison told Swansea crown court how he was called to a layby near Aberaeron on August 3rd to examine a body found in the passenger seat footwell of a Ford Fiesta which had crashed into a parked camper van.

He said her body had been partly covered with a green sleeping bag and he could see a knife with a serrated edge on the floor in the front of the vehicle.

The following day he carried out a post mortem and logged 22 injuries, some of which could have been caused by the collision itself.

But he also found a deep stab wound to the left cheek which had extended to her neck and damaged the jugular vein.

He said there were abrasions, bruises, scratches and cuts to her body and two stab wounds that had penetrated her heart proved to be fatal.

Injuries to her left arm and hand could have been defensive wounds inflicted as she tried to protect herself.

Cross examined by Fisher's barrister, Elwen Evans QC, Dr Davison said it was possible that the heart injuries could have been caused by a single stab during which either the knife or body had twisted during the process.

The court also heard from Pam Singh, a psychiatric nurse based at the West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen, who said she worked with young people who had self harmed. Sasha, of Golwg y Castell, Cardigan, had been referred to her in 2006.

She said Sasha had taken an overdose of tablets but she did not believe it was a serious attempt to kill herself.

"She was distressed because her boyfriend had ended their relationship over the telephone.

"She took an overdose but she did it in front of a friend. It was impulsive. She told me she did not know what would happen but she did not want to die," added Mrs Singh.

  The trial continues.
