Mass sea rescue takes place off Fishguard

10:50am Thursday 11th March 2010

A mass rescue took place off Fishguard last Friday, as a fishing boat that had come to the rescue of another vessel also broke down.

At 6.05pm the fishing boat Southern Star contacted Milford Haven coastguard operations room to request assistance.

The vessel was taken under tow by fishing vessel Betty G who was in the vicinity. The tow was too heavy for Betty G and caused her engine to fail, leaving both rescuer and stricken vessel adrift.

Fishing boats Picses and Charella came to their aid and took the two stricken craft in tow.

All vessels ended up safely at Fishguard Harbour where they were met by Fishguard coastguards who offered safety advice.
