The new parking meters installed in Fishguard by Pembrokeshire County Council have already been vandalised.
Over the weekend the coin slots of the machines were damaged.
PC Holloway, at Fishguard police station, said that it was impossible to know if the vandalism had taken place as part of a protest against controversial parking charges, which will be introduced in the town on April 1st.
Anyone who witnessed the damage should contact him on 101.
