An exhibition of plans to recover a Sunderland flying boat for display in Pembroke Dock, has been attracting special attention in Westminster.
Hosted by West Carmarthen and South Pembrokeshire MP Nick Ainger, the Sunderland Trust’s plans were on show in the upper waiting hall of the House of Commons all last week.
MPs and special guests attended the official opening ceremony on Tuesday, March 9th. Among them were Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain; Wales Office Minister, Wayne David; Mayor of Pembroke, Councillor Pam George and Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb.
Sunderland Trust chairman William McNamara, said the trust believed the whole project had potential to become a major visitor and educational attraction, centred on important and iconic buildings in one of the foremost military heritage towns in the UK.
The plans for a Welsh heritage centre to house the flying boat were praised by Nick Ainger, who said Pembroke Dock’s long and special links with all three armed services offered a remarkable opportunity to create a unique visitor attraction, which would have national and international appeal.
The eight panels created for the exhibition will be used for other displays as the trust continues to promote its heritage proposals.
