Five appliances tackle marina blaze

11:34am Monday 22nd March 2010

The cause of a fire at Neyland Marina last night (Sunday) is currently under investigation.

Emergency services were called to the incident, which was initially reported as a property fire, at 8.18pm. Two fire appliances and a foam equipment vehicle from Milford Haven and two appliances from Pembroke Dock attended.

They found the fire well alight. It had started in a portable office building and spread to a steel container.

An eye witness described how he was walking down Gaddarn Reach when he saw smoke coming from one of the portable office buildings at Dale Sailing.

He said there were also a number of small explosions at the premises.

Neyland Marina was closed off while firefighters used five main jets, a ground monitor, twelve sets of breathing apparatus and a handheld thermal imaging camera to tackle the blaze, giving the all clear at 10.27pm.

A spokesman for the Mid and West Wales fire and rescue service said that the cause of the blaze was currently under investigation but, at present, there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.
