Sailor rescued from capsized vessel

A man was taken to hospital yesterday (evening) after he was rescued from beneath his capsized dinghy.

Milford Haven Coastguard responded to an emergency ‘Mayday’ call at 6:54pm.

It was reported that the laser sailing dinghy with two crew onboard had capsized off Dale. One of the crew was trapped underneath the hull of the dinghy.

A Rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor was scrambled and the all weather and inshore lifeboats from Angle were requested to launch.

Dale Coastguards were sent to the scene and an ambulance was in attendance.

Roger Reed, Milford Haven Coastguard watch manager, said: "A man in his thirties was rescued by the lifeboat crew and transferred to Withybush General Hospital by helicopter.”
