Bridge players' shock at vandal smash
11:10am Sunday 7th October 2012 in County News
A group of community centre users narrowly missed injury after a vandal smashed a window at the building.
Tenby and District Bridge Club was holding one of its twice-weekly sessions at Kilgetty Community Centre on Wednesday when there was a crash and broken glass came into the room.
“There was a considerable bang, and chunks of glass flew straight through the window,” said one bridge player.
“Some of the glass was within inches of the woman on my right. If she had been any nearer the window, she could have been seriously hurt.”
The front window of the centre, measuring four feet by two feet, was completely shattered in the incident.
“We don’t know how it was caused, as we couldn't see a stone,” said the player.
“I went to the door and looked down the road towards the roundabout, and I could only see one person.
He looked to be about 14, of medium build and wearing a fluorescent yellow tunic with silver flashes, and he was moving.
“I got in the car with a couple of friends and we drove in his direction, but he had disappeared.
“The incident certainly caused a bit of consternation, but we eventually carried on – it was a bridge evening, after all!”
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 8.20pm, to contact Narberth police station on 101.
