Apache attack helicopters have been flying over Pembrokeshire over the last two days as part of an exercise at Castlemartin base.

The Apaches - the helicopter flown by Prince Harry in Afghanistan - were spotted over much of the county up until 11pm last night, prompting some complaints about noise.

The helicopters are taking part in Operation Winged Hussar at the base.

An Army spokesman said that the exercise, involving three Apaches, was part of the Regimental Army Air Corps pre-deployment training for Afghanistan.

“They have all the clearances for this kind of low level flying,” said the spokesman. “Unfortunately there has been some disturbance.”

The exercise will continue in the Haverfordwest area until this weekend.

What do you want them to do, ask the Taliban not to fight after 11 pm??

Yes, more noise. The firing, jet aircraft employing afterburners overhead, and now the helecoptors, (way after 11pm might I add). It's a pretty permanent thing in Pembroke Dock. It doesn't bother me particularly, but it DOES bother my dog. To the extent that she has destroyed most of the carpet in the living room from digging in her terror. And there is little I can do to help her.
It is an invasive and anti social noise that nothing will be done about. And I cannot see why it has to be almost constant.

it is unfair on people with young children and babies being woken up by this, there are plenty of fields with no homes around where there will be no children that will get woken up by the noise! if we went down the street blasting music in our car we would be arrested for it under the noise pollution act, what is different between us with babies and them when they can fly and train elsewhere during the night

It's as dark as 11 as it is at 7, so why not do it earlier in the evening rather than only start about 10.30! They have obviously done a press release due to complaints and trying to get the public on side by mentions Harry and Afghanistan! it was bloody loud and ridiculous it was done that late during the week!

I think it is interesting watching them go over. They have to practise and at the end of the day does it really matter? What annoys me more is when people let off fireworks late at night.

So very true. We should be grateful that we have people brave enough to fly these machines.

My pet hate is people who start going on about children and babies as an excuse to hide their bigotry
