Youngsters splashing out

Splashing out to learn water safety and lifesaving skills is all part of the fun for the youngsters who belong to the Survival Club at Narberth Swimming Pool.

The members, aged between 10 and 16, are holding a sponsored swim at 4pm tomorrow (Thursday) to raise money towards transport and accommodation for their summer camp in St David's.

Pool manager Jenny Price said: "The Survival Club has had a lot of fun this year. Thanks must go to everyone who has made it a success, including volunteers Ian Mayes, Hannah Francis, Steve Howitt and Bryn Etchells, and of course, the kids for supporting the club."

Members have achieved a host of National Rescue Standard (Nars) awards in recent months, led by Jessica Salmon and Joanne Thomas, who have both gained their Bronze Cross, Silver Cross and Pool Lifeguard.

Awarded the Bronze Cross, Swimming Pool Rescue and Water Safety Award 2 were: Tom Allan, Eleri Allan, Rachel Allen, Ben Morris, Catrin Morris, Vincent Morse and Lauren Bradbury.

Youngsters who gained the Bronze Cross, Swimming Pool Rescue and Water Safety Award 1 were: Tammy Howarth, Lizzie Diamond, Toby Newham, Charlie Tattersall, Jack Murphy, Josh Phillips, Christine owen, Olivia Bradbury, Mark Brown, Aled John, Christian Cole, James Elkins and Dylan Pfaff.

Ffion Thomas and Holly Allen, who joined the Survival Club after Christmas and have taken part in all activities, have successfully completed their GCSE swimming.

They are hoping to come back in September to complete the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cross awards.
