As plans for a multi-million pound development in Tenby go before councillors for the first time, work is progressing to clear the rubble from the site at the heart of the project.
The Royal Gatehouse Hotel was partially demolished following last Easter’s fire which gutted the building, and notices have been served by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, requiring the removal of rubble from the site. The notice also required that the rest of the building is demolished and the site re-fenced.
Tuesday (6th) evening, Tenby Town Council was due to consider the huge proposal for the Gatehouse site, the adjoining Playhouse cinema, Francis Yard and the former petrol station in Deer Park, as well as the Royal Lion Hotel.
The council’s observations will then go forward to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, which will determine the application.
The plans, submitted by Gatehouse owner Graham Fry and Dovey Estates Ltd include 59 apartments on the former Gatehouse site; hotel accommodation/conferencing/banqueting and three retail units at the Royal Lion Hotel; 17 affordable apartments on the former petrol station land; four retail units and cinema at Playhouse Cinema; and three townhouses to the rear of 1-5 White Lion Street.
There is also a new application proposing demolition and construction of 16 apartments above four commercial units at the former Delphi Garage and associated buildings in South Parade.
A spokesman for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority said the applications ‘form a major redevelopment proposal in the national park’.
He added: “The scheme will be considered at a national park authority development management committee once the applications have been processed and consultations are complete.”
