A PEMBROKESHIRE couple with farming in their blood have scooped one of three top prizes in a popular competition.

Although Eifion and Iona Daniels are no longer directly involved in agriculture they make a point of not missing the popular S4C programme Ffermio, and their interest has paid off, as they are now the proud owners of a new box van trailer, having won the show’s competition run in conjunction with Ifor Williams Trailers.

Iona and Eifion, who live in Blaenffos, Boncath, both come from farming stock. Iona’s brother still runs the family farm at Mynachlog Ddu while Eifion’s father had to give up farming or health reasons in the 1960s. They still have a keen interest in farming matters and were delighted to receive the trailer at the Raoyl Welsh Winter Fair.

“We’re very pleased to have a trailer which will be very useful as it will mean us no longer having to make three or four journeys as we ferry things around from A to B,” said Eifion.

The competition to win one of three Ifor Williams trailers keeps growing in popularity, with a huge response this series.

A spokesman for S4C said: “The annual Ffermio competition captures the imagination of viewers every year.

“It reflects the popularity of Ffermio as a series that is at the heart of the S4C schedule and the response to the competition was fantastic again this year.

“We would like to thank Ifor Williams Trailers for providing the prizes and to Telesgop, who produce the series, for organising the competition.”

The first prize of a livestock trailer worth £2,925 went to farmer’s wife and part-time Welsh teacher Llinos Evans, of Llanrhaeadr YC, near Denbigh, and the second prize of a commercial trailer with mesh extensions, worth £2,170, was won by Lewis Williams, of Llanfihangel y Pennant, near Tywyn.
