A FARMERS’ daughter from south Pembrokeshire is the new Farming Connect regional co-ordinator for the area.

Rebecca Summons, from Waterston, aged 23, lives on the family’s 150 acre beef and sheep farm, and recently started her own flock of pedigree Dorset sheep. She is also a keen horsewoman and is delighted she can now combine her passion for rural activities with her day job, especially as she’ll be working in her home county.

“I will be working with farm and forestry businesses in the region to encourage them to tap into the very wide range of services and knowledge transfer events provided by Farming Connect,” said Rebecca.

She will also help people make funding applications and claims for subsidised support, including the Whole Farm Plan service, which offers one-to-one business and technical mentoring; the Farm Advisory Service, which helps farmers improve sustainable management; and the Skills Development Programme, which provides access to a range if training courses.

“Farming Connect supports farmers to consider new ideas and improved ways of working, which can lead to reduced outputs and increased efficiencies. My aim is to ensure they get the most out of what’s available to them, in a package tailored to their business requirements,” added Rebecca.

“There is so much support and guidance available through Farming Connect and I am looking forward to working with local businesses to help them access the 80% funding for subsidised services that can help them to take their business forward, explore new business ventures and improve the skill levels of individuals within the business.”
