THE new president of Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society is following in his father’s foosteps.

Dick Davies, of Middle Scoveston, near Neyland has become the president of the society 51 years after his father, the late John L. Davies held the post in 1963.

Farmer and history graduate Mr Davies said he was proud to follow his father and felt honoured to have been chosen to take on the role, but said it was a challenge to follow such as successful president as Mike Davies.

A member of the society for more than 40 years Mr Davies has been a steward for many years and during his presidency he and his partner Margaret hope to feature a commemoration of the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The new president-elect is Ian Fudge, of Treffgarne, a partner in local law firm J.C.P. with offices at Haverfordwest and Fishguard, working in the agricultural section. He and his wife Lesley have been interested in ponies for many years, an activity shared by their two daughters. Mr Fudge has stewarded at various shows and also judged local pony events. A member of the society for more than 20 years, he is a committee member and a trustee of the society. He has been a member of the Pembrokeshire Hunt for over 20 years.

Also at the AGM, Nicky Owen was elected to succeed Malcolm Lewis as society treasurer and Tania Hancock, of Camrose, was unveiled as the new lady ambassador. The society chaplain, Canon Geoffrey Gwyther, of St Davids Church Prendergast and Rudbaxton, was made an honorary life vice-president in tribute to his many years of valuable service to the society.
