WITH continuing generous sponsorship from leading organisations associated with the agricultural industry the Welsh Dairy Show after some 27 years still enjoys ongoing success and wholehearted support from producers and the trade.

In opening the event, the president, Mr Brian Jones of Castell Howell Foods – a former dairy farmer who chose to diversify soon after milk quotas were introduced – said that he, and his family, still took a very keen interest in all farming matters and wished the organisers well for the future.

The show is held mostly under cover on the United Counties site just west of Carmarthen and this month attracted 150 livestock entries and well over 100 trade exhibitors.

Chairman Lynn Davies remarked that there was a very satisfactory attendance everyone was well pleased. He added that a huge measure of credit was due to the main sponsors and all others who had made a major contribution.

Taking pride of place in the judging ring for the second year in succession was the February 2011 born Jersey third calver, Jubilee Excitation Ceres 2, the supreme champion cow bred by Jeff and Anthea Daw with another home-bred animal, the Holstein senior cow in milk Erie Maplerose PS Lustre from Edward, Eiddwen and Iwan Morgan standing in reserve.

In the heifer section best was given to another Jersey, the September 2013 calved Tregibby Panama Tequilla shown by the Hefin Wilson placed above a Holstein from the Morgan family, Nobold Windbrook Joan.

The Wilsons were also prominent amongst the winners at the Calf show, held on the eve of the Dairy Show, leading the parade with the April 2014 born Tregibby Windbrook Bloom and 17 year old Ifan claiming the handler prize.
