At this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show the lady ambassador will almost be on home ground for, it would appear, Marged Simons, 27, has spent almost half her life in the showring.

The younger daughter of Tim and Delyth Simons of Coxlake, Narberth, Marged attended Ysgol Beca at Efailwen, then Preseli Secondary before reading for a degree in biology at Swansea University.

Keenly involved with Llawhaden YFC, she was employed at the nearby Cotts Equestrian Hospital before more recently joining the staff of the Dairy Research Centre at Gelli Aur as a technical officer.

With her elder sister, Beth, both Welsh speakers, they are committed to working with their parents on the dairy farm but also have an enterprising equestrian section including a training school.

Breeding Cobs – sections D and C – under the Marbeth prefix they keep around ten horses and do some livery but the girls are quite exceptional eventers having both won at the Horse of the Year show (champion and reserve), won the best of breed twice at Olympia and taken best at the Royal Welsh Show.

Marged believes that having been so involved with YFCs has prepared her well for the role of the show’s lady ambassador and she is greatly looking forward a busy year ahead, particularly the show itself.
