J. J. Morris reports: A good entry of sheep for the sale, with 372 breeding sheep, 60 rams and 320 store lambs. Again quality stock sold to a very good trade in both the sheep and ram rings with plenty of demand from buyers.
Rams (60): Top price was £325.50 for a ram lamb from Bowen, Gwyndy, Llandeloy and rams sold to £246 from Davies, Morfa Farm, Mathry. Yearling rams sold to £178 from Thomas, Gwarllwyn, Glandwr and Wilson and Partners, Common Church.
Breeding ewes (372): Excellent quality yearling ewes sold to £183.75 from Scurlock and sons, Solbury Farm, Dale Road with others to £136, £131, Scurlock and sons, Solbury Farm; £83 £82, Davies, Glangwenlais, Cilycwm; £80, £76, Bradbury, Trefwynt, Bethesda.
Ewes sold to a top price of £119 from Reed and son, Upper Scolton, Spittal, with other leading prices: £112, Reed and son, Upper Scolton; £78, Powell, Blaengolau, Abergorlech Road; £63, O’Leary, 4 Observatory House, Picton Road. Ewe lambs sold to a top price of £46 from Picton, Tymawr, Boncath.
Store lambs (320) sold to a top price of £42 from Wilson, Middle Pool, Pendine with other leading prices at £40, Jones, Llwyn Partridge, Capel Isaac; £40, Eynon, Plasybedw, Efailwen; £36, Picton, Tymawr, Boncath.
Cardigan
August 25th
J. J. Morris reports: Despite it being a bank holiday there was a large entry of sheep in all sections. Lambs once again met a brisk trade throughout and there was a special entry of Texel breeding ewes from Davies, Rhandir, Tremain with the best fetching £89. Cull ewes met a steady trade and there were fewer calves entered, but the trade is holding up well.
Lambs (763): Overall average 127.7ppk. Top prices: 142, 131.9, Davies, Plas Troedyraur, Beulah, Newcastle Emlyn; 137, 130.4, Jones, Blaenwaun Ganol, Llanwnen, Lampeter; 135.3, Tomkinson, Brynyrefail, Oakford, Llanarth.

BJP reports: An excellent entry of store cattle (203) with a very brisk trade, especially for younger stores.
Top price of £755 for a Charolais steer sold by Howell, Morvil, Rosebush. Best heifers were Limousins selling for £712 from Raymond, Long House, Mathry.
Hereford steers, £730, Phillips, Croft; Charolais steers, £715, Phillips, Croft; Friesian steers, £710, Owen, Llanwern.
Belgian Blue heifers, £680, Phillips, Croft; Charolais heifers, £670, Phillips, Croft; Simmental heifers, £605, George, Scleddau.
Cull cows (25): A good entry sold to an excellent trade. Best price of £885 for a Simmental cow weighing 800kg from Reynish, White Hall, with others to £865, £850. A Limousin steer, aged 46 months, weighing 765kg sold for £975 from John, Upper Newton.
Maximum price per kilo 128p, average 98p. Average per head £663.
Calves (80): Best entry for a long time with a very good trade. Best price of £258 for a Belgian Blue bull from Owen, The Holmes.

J. J. Morris reports: An excellent entry of lambs (746), with trade in line with national trends.
Again the strongest demand was for premium lambs, with a top price of 136p from Beynon, Great Pitton Farm, Rhossili. Other leading prices: 134p, Phillips, Windsor Farm, Lamphey; 133p, Fairclough, Frowen, Login; 133p, Bowen, Kyngadle Farm, Laugharne.
Top price per head was £63.20 from Howells and sons, Sarnlas Farm, Henllan Amgoed, with other leading prices: £62.20, James, Iscoed, Whitland; £61.80, £61, Phillips, Upper Portclew, Freshwater East; £60.80, Bowen, Kyngadle Farm, Laugharne.
Non-approved lambs sold to an average of £33.13 and hoggets sold to a top price of £30.
Cull ewes and rams (385): A good entry with the greatest demand for the heavier type ewes, which sold to an average of £43.99, with lighter ewes selling to an average of £20.63.Top price was £60.50 from Davies, Trefasser Isaf, Goodwick, with others: £59, £50, Williams and son, Lower Solbury, Walwyns Castle; £56, Howells, Tycam, Llanwennog; £50, Reynolds, Speedlands Farm, Dale.
Wethers sold to a top price of £31.50 from Collins, Gorswen, Whitland and rams sold to £25.50 from Thomas, Fynnonau Gleision, Boncath.
Overage cattle and barren cows: Due to more entries and quality of the cattle, barren cows sold to an average of 108.54ppk, but to a top price of 130ppk for a 610kg Limousin from Prout Bros, Rowston Farm, Stackpole.
Other leading prices: £850, Roberts and son, Garn Farm, Trimsaran; £800, Davies, Barre Farm, Lampeter Velfrey; £795, Prout Farm, Rowston Farm, Stackpole.
Overage heifers sold to £710 for a 555kg Belgian Blue from Thomas, Cruglwyd, Capel Iwan. Overage steers sold to £1,195 for a 970kg Belgian Blue from Prout Bros, Rowston Farm, Stackpole.
Fat cattle: An excellent entry of quality fat cattle wih a top price per kilo of 157.50p for a 565kg Limousin heifer from Reynolds, Pantroydin, Llanddewi Velfrey. Steers sold to an average of 149.74ppk with heifers selling to an average of 147.84ppk.
Top price per head was £1,061 for a 710kg Limousin steer from Brodie, Yerbeston Mountain, Kilgetty.
A superb entry of first-class heifers resulted in a top price per head of £1,053 for a 705kg Limousin from Saer, Rhosgoch, Red Roses, and bulls sold to 134ppk for a 630kg Hereford.
Calves: Bull calves sold to a top price of £152 for a Simmental from Wolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach, Whitland, who also sold the top heifer for £146.

A very good entry with 68 cows, heifers, in-calvers and bulling heifers selling to a strong trade.

J. J. Morris reports: The market was held at Cardigan because of Crymych Fair, with more than 800 sheep in all sections with store lambs again in great demand. Breeding ewes were similar to previous markets and quality in the cull ewes was very mixed.

Dai Lewis Auctioneers reports: A seasonal entry in all sections (991). Lambs saw a much brisker trade, store lambs sold to a fluid run for the quality, and culls saw a firm demand throughout, with a lot more lightweights presented.
