Three UK dairy farming experts, considered to be among the best in the business, are lined up to advise farmers in Pembrokeshire tomorrow (Tuesday).
The trio will deliver advice at a conference initiated by farmer-owned co-operative, Clynderwen and Cardiganshire Farmers.
For the co-operative’s general manager Keith Gosney, the reasons for hosting the conference are clear.
“We want farmers to be the best at what they do, because if they succeed then so do we.
“We wouldn’t have gone ahead with this conference had we not been able to secure the very best speakers in the country.
“We have done that and now we want farmers to come along to hear what these speakers have to say that could help them with their businesses.”
The keynote speaker is Dr David Roberts, head of research at the Scottish Agricultural Colleges, who is responsible for 450 high genetic cows at Langhill.
The herd is split into two groups — one fed a diet high in concentrates and low forage and housed 12 months of the year and the other the exact opposite.
Dr Roberts will be joined by Dr David Johnson, a top UK plant breeder, with more varieties on the NIAB list than any other.
Dr Johnson works at the LOUGHAL plant breeding station in Northern Ireland and also lectures at Queens University, Belfast.
Also on the panel will be John Twigge, of Nutreco, rated as one of the UK’s leading commercial nutritionists.
His recent work focuses on commercial responses to complete diet feeding.
“The conference represents probably the best assembly of practical speakers seen in south west Wales for a very long time,” added Mr Gosney.
“We would urge dairy farmers to come along to get some good practical guidance.’’ The conference at the Nant-y-Ffin Motel, Llandissilio, will take place tomorrow, Tuesday September 30th, between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
