The Welsh Assembly has issued a clarification on rules regarding the transportation of animals.
There is a misconception that a review of EC regulations means transporters no longer need to gain a certificate of competence and are entitled to a refund of the costs incurred in gaining training and a certificate. A spokesman said: “This is not so and the EC regulation has not been withdrawn. The EC review is part of the normal process to assess implementation of new legislation.
“Transporters that have not obtained authorisation from animal health and gained a certificate of competence, need to do so to comply with the requirements of the welfare of animals regulations.”
