Months of hard work have finally paid off for Haverfordwest Fairtrade campaigners as the town will be awarded Fairtrade status at Pembrokeshire County Show.

MEP Jill Evans will present a Fairtrade certificate to Rev Chris Gillham, chairman of Haverfordwest's Fair Trade Campaign, in the tent for the Congregational Federation (E160), at 3pm on Tuesday.

Campaign secretary Simon Moffett said: "It's a worthwhile thing to do and I'm glad we have done something for Haverfordwest.

"The next step now will be to make Pembrokeshire a Fairtrade county."

Rev Gillham had similar sentiments and said there was still a long way to go to encourage people to buy Fairtrade.

"I think it's encouraging that we are being given Fairtrade status," he said, "I was very pleased as it's something I feel strongly about."

Rev Gillham added that, as well as promoting foreign fair trade, the campaign also supports local trade.

MEP Jill Evans said: "People of all backgrounds want to see producers in the developing world have fair access to global markets so they are able to sell their produce at a fair price.

"I am delighted tohave this invitation to present Haverfordwest's Fairtrade certificate, as this is another example of what can be achieved at local level towardssocial justice around the world.

Treasurer for the Fair Trade Campaign, Cllr Alan Buckfield added the recognition of Fairtrade status was the award for all the people who worked so hard promoting the campaign.
