Campaigners battling to save services at Withybush Hospital are stepping up the fight.

SWAT, the Save Withybush Action Team, has arranged a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) evening at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest from 8-10pm.

All interested parties are invited to attend to discuss a way forward.

As well as lobbying and campaigning, the group is also considering legal action including asking for a Judicial Review of the actions of the health minister and health board, if money can be found to pay fees.

Chris Overton, chairman of SWAT, said: “If we could find 1,200 people willing to put forward £100 we could launch a Judicial Review following the health minister’s announcement on September 24, but we only have until the beginning of December.

“Alternatively a Pembrokeshire resident who is a ‘man or woman of straw’ ie no income, no partner with an income or assets, and no assets may provide us with a legal aid route like Llanelli.

“Donations can start now into the account we set up in January, but never filled because people just did not think the health board would be so ruthless. Now they know.”

SWAT is looking for around £120,000 for its legal fund. It would also like to hear from anyone willing to stand as a trustee to ensure everything is above board. The intention would be that any money left over would be given to health related charities.

Any donations for the SWAT legal fund should go to: SWAT-SCBU Legal Fund. Sort code 30-93-98. Account: 01914837.
