Pembrokeshire's at the polls

PEMBROKESHIRE goes to the polls today to elect the men and women who will make the decisions that impact on everything from roads to rubbish collections.

Elections take place for seats on Pembrokeshire County Council and numerous town and community councils across Pembrokeshire.

In County Hall, with 13 members facing no contest, 47 seats will be decided by the end of Friday's count.

But the opposition parties will need a large swing to take power from the ruling Independent Group, especially as 12 current Independent Group councillors have been returned unopposed.

The current make-up of the council sees the Independent Group holding 39 of the 60 seats.

Labour currently hold 11 wards, Plaid Cymru five, LD Plus two and the Conservatives and Independent (non-aligned) one seat each.

The remaining seat was left vacant following the death of Cllr Bill Philpin.

There are 94 polling stations in Pembrokeshire and all will be open from 7am to 10pm today.
