Because of bad weather the rescue helicopter was not launched and it was decided to wait for the ferry to dock before evacuating the casualty.
A nurse onboard the ferry tended to the teenager until he was evacuated. Paramedics and coastguards stabilised the casualty before placing him on a body board and taking him off the boat to an awaiting ambulance.
Although the youth's injuries are serious they and not thought to be life threatening. Police were informed but no suspicious circumstances are believed to be involved.
