Unpaid work for full -time carer revoked

A father who had not completed any of the 80 hours of unpaid work he had been sentenced to had his community order revoked yesterday (Wednesday).

Scott Keane, of 28 Devon Drive, Pembroke, had been convicted of common assault. He was initially sentenced to 50 hours of community service. This was increased to 80 hours in March as punishment for a first breach of the community order.

The probation service said that Keane, aged 27, had shown little motivation to comply with the order and had 80 hours of unpaid work still outstanding.

James Subiani, defending, said that his client was juggling too many balls. He said that Keane had given up work to become his partner's full time carer since she had developed aggressive arthritis. He was now caring for his partner and their children 24/7, and because of this couldn't manage the unpaid work.

Magistrates told Keane that they were very concerned that he had not undertaken the work, as the community order was part of his punishment.

They revoked the unpaid work and issued a four months curfew, from 7pm until 7am, as an alternative punishment.
