Workers at Ledwood Mechanical Engineering have been left reeling after the sudden death of managing director Willie McLean.

The 49-year-old experienced chest pains in the departure lounge at Glasgow Airport on Sunday, June 29th. He decided not to board his flight and died after suffering a heart attack on his way to hospital.

In a letter to clients and professional acquaintances, chief executive Allan Davies says the Pembroke Dock-based company has been deeply shocked' by the death, adding: "Willie had been an enormous presence and driving force in the company for more than ten years, and will be missed as a colleague and friend.

"He leaves a wife and two children, and our deepest sympathies are with them.

"Willie's legacy is that he leaves a strong and thriving company."

Mr McLean joined Ledwood just over ten years ago. The company has gone from strength to strength, winning major contracts with both LNG terminals and the local refineries.

Described as electric' and enthusiastic' by friend and colleague, Tony Hunt, Mr McLean will also be remembered for his tireless campaign to provide vocational training for apprentices and workers.
