Dear Editor - Many people across Wales are waiting more than a year to receive their digital hearing aids from NHS Wales. Targets indicate people should wait no longer than 36 weeks.
As a member of RNID Cymru, the leading charity for deaf and hard of hearing people, I support its call for the Welsh Assembly to set an 18-week waiting time target for the fitting of a digital hearing aid.
This target should include those waiting for their first hearing aid and those waiting to be reassessed for upgrades to digital hearing technology.
Local health boards must invest in hearing aid services. Hearing aids can be a lifeline and it is terrible that fellow residents in Wales are made to wait so long to receive such a life-changing piece of equipment.
