Dear editor - What annoys me about the orange bag scheme is the almost total disregard of plastic.
Next to paper, plastic probably represents the bulk of our waste output.
Also, when the orange bag scheme started we were told to put in plastic bottles, tubs, pots and bags, but now it's bottles only.
Why is this?
Surely the raw material for plastic is oil, now rocketing in price, which will carry through to the cost of plastics.
China is an enormous market for granulated scrap plastic, and I am advised that you can get 14tons into a standard shipping container.
Are we recycling to reduce landfill and enhance our environment efforts, or merely to make money with the least possible effort?
