Dear Editor - The editorial on April 9th commented on the role of a councillor being to represent the views of the people who elected them.
The council's constitution states that all councillors, collectively, will be the ultimate policy makers and effectively represent the interests of the county as a whole, their electoral division, and participate in the governance of the council.
It is likely that following the election, a number of independently elected councillors will form the majority group which will then appoint cabinet members and have the majority of seats on its committees.

As a voter, I want to know whether an independent candidate, if elected, will choose to join this group, and what its county-wide aspirations are. We might expect that all candidates will do their best for us, but what is the county manifesto of the Independent Political Group?
If most independent candidates intend to join this group, what is the point of voting? I feel let down by the national political parties for the lack of voting choice.
