Dear Editor - Regarding the story of injured cat Kiri (Western Telegraph, March 26th) and her rescuer who was disappointed that The Blue Cross could not pay towards her treatment.
The Blue Cross Veterinary Care Fund was set up to give pets access to vital veterinary treatment which their owners would not otherwise be able to afford.
As a charity, our funds are limited so we use a set of criteria to make sure they reach the animals and people most in need of our help, such as owners on state pensions or means tested benefits.

However, we recognise that some cases like Kiri's are not clear cut and we do try to be flexible wherever possible.
In light of this case, we are re-examining our criteria to ensure The Blue Cross is doing as much as it can to help animals in need, particularly in an emergency situation.
Tom Clarkson
Senior supporter care officer,
The Blue Cross.
