A THREE month trek around Wales might not be everyone’s idea of a holiday, but for one grandmother it is the fulfilment of a personal ambition, as well as a chance to support a charity close to her heart.

Experienced walker Rebecca Morris from near Knighton set off on her epic walking holiday on March 1, and has travelled along the north Wales coast, round Anglesey, the Llyn Peninsula, and Cardigan Bay.

One of the highlights of her trip was entering the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on April 9, taking in the sights of Dinas Head, Strumble Head, Abereiddy, before enjoying a rest day in Caerfai just outside of St Davids on April 12.

Rebecca and her family have strong links with Pembrokeshire with her husband Phil’s family hailing from Quickwell Hill in St Davids.

Later this month Rebecca will head for Swansea and Cardiff, before making her way back to her starting point in Monmouthshire by the middle of May.

The 56-year-old will be raising money for the homelessness charity Shelter Cymru.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to do this walk and it seemed like too good an opportunity not to use it to raise some money for a cause that’s important to me.

“I chose Shelter Cymru because someone close to me nearly found themselves homeless a few years ago. Fortunately we were in a position to help them get back on their feet, but not everyone has that kind of support."

Rebecca will be camping for much of her walk, although she will swap a few nights under canvas for the more comfortable surroundings of a camper van when her husband Phil joins her at various points along the way.

“Not knowing exactly where I’ll be spending each night seems particularly appropriate given that I’m supporting Shelter Cymru,” added Rebecca.

She has already achieved her target of raising £1,500, and continues to fundraise.
