A SHIPPING container full of refurbished wheelchairs and mobility aids has arrived in South Africa from north Pembrokeshire.

This shipment is part of the Wheelie Good Idea managed by CLA member Jim Bowen at Clynfyw Care Farm in Boncath.

Jim has benefitted from CLA’s charitable trust, which was set up to encourage landowners to provide opportunities for the disabled and disadvantaged on their property

“We work with the Container Ministry in Durban who will distribute the equipment to small charities and community groups in eastern South Africa and southern Mozambique,’ said Jim.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has supported the project, from donating equipment, fixing it up, to raising the funds to send the container on its way.”

In September 2013 more than £1,200 was raised on a sponsored wheel from one side of the farm to the other.

“It really has been a magnificent community based effort,” said Jim.

Clynfyw already has enough donated equipment stored to send another container, and with the aim of keeping this a truly community based project, they have turned to Crowdfunder to help fund it.

Jim said: “We need £5,000 to buy and ship our next container and with more than £100,000 worth of equipment that went into the last one, it’s a great return with each piece of kit really changing lives.”
