PEMBROKE Dock Library has been awarded £24,000 to improve its facilities.

The Water Street library is due to receive the extra funding as part of a libraries modernisation plan announced by the Welsh Government.

The money will be used to improve library facilities and introduce new services.

Pembroke Dock is one of only nine libraries across Wales singled out by the culture minister, John Griffiths, to benefit from a share of a £2.2 million modernisation grant for libraries, museums and archive services.

The extra funding was welcomed by Labour parliamentary candidate for south Pembrokeshire Delyth Evans.

“The library in Pembroke Dock is an important part of the local community,” she said.

“This grant is very welcome, and it will enable the library to make improvements to meet the needs of its users.

“As a keen reader myself, I urge people of all ages to use the library and particularly parents of young children, so that they can enjoy the magic of books from an early age.”

Making the announcement, John Griffiths said: “This welcome investment will enable local museums, archives and libraries to develop their services, improve facilities and encourage wider use by the public.

“It will help promote our rich culture and heritage and ensure that more people can access and enjoy our collections.”
