THE congregation of Pembroke Dock Messy Church went the extra mile this Lent, making sacrifices in aid of charity.

Parishioners recently gathered to celebrate the pre-Easter season during which Christians traditionally give something up.

This year, Messy Church-goers decided that rather just talking about it they would all give something up in aid of Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship (PATCH).

Children from the church made special wrapping paper to cover a gift box which was then filled with food for the charity which provides free food parcels to individuals and families in need.

Pembroke Dock vicar Rev Nicky Skipworth visited PATCH's base at Monkton where the charity’s dedicated volunteers were on hand to receive the donations.

Visiting PATCH also gave Rev Skipworth the chance to deliver a car-load of food donations from her other congregations who worship at St John's Church on Bush Street, St Teilo's Church on London Road and St Patrick's Church on Treowen Road.

PATCH coordinator Tracey Olin was delighted with the donations. "Wow, this is fantastic,” she said. “Huge thanks to all who donated and decorated. This will help so, so much."

Messy Church is a family-friendly informal act of worship, with an emphasis on fun and creativity. It takes place at St John's Community Hall on the first Saturday of the month in term time from 11am. Free lunch included.
