PEMBROKESHIRE charities are to benefit from a sell-out concert organised by Pembroke Rotary Club.

The Rotary Club and Valero joined forces again this year to bring the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra back to the Follies Theatre, Folly Farm, for a programme of Romantic classics conducted by Michael Bell. All proceeds will go to the Pembrokeshire Sibling Group and Rotary charities.

The orchestra received a rapturous reception from the audience. The programme started with Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet overture. Steffan Morris, the brilliant Welsh cellist, and New Zealand-born violinist, Ben Baker, then gave a dramatic performance of the Brahms double concerto, followed by Rachmaninov's third symphony.

Pembroke Rotary Club president Emyr Williams said: "We are extremely grateful to Valero for its continued support and to Folly Farm for the use of the Follies Theatre, enabling the club to further its charitable work.

"We are proud to bring excellent classical music to Pembrokeshire audiences through the CPO concert and the Royal Academy songs and arias recital which will be taking place on the Saturday (April 26) after Easter."

Valero public affairs manager Stephen Thornton said: "This popular event does such wonderful work for charitable causes, and we are delighted to have sponsored another successful event this year."
