THE campaign to save Narberth swimming pool has been given a boost, thanks to planning permission being granted for proposed developments and improvements.

Pembrokeshire County Council has approved the work, which includes the installation of a bio-mass boiler.

“This is a big positive for us, but we still have to wait for the council to decide whether or not we are able to make a community take-over of the pool,” said John Sleigh, the secretary of SwimNarberth.

Further discussions on the pool’s business plan were due to take place between pool campaigners and the council yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

“Our fund now stands at £40,000 which has been either received or pledged, and that is remarkable achievement in just six month,” added Mr Sleigh. “We have made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go.”

The pool's share offer is also being launched through SwimNarberth and NarberthEnergy,.

A fundraising barbecue as part of Narberth Civic Week took place on Monday, while on Saturday, the pool's float in the carnival parade will be on the theme of Street Swimmers Spectacular.
