ABOUT 200 people visited Pembroke Dock Fire Station when it opened its doors to the public for the afternoon on Saturday, July 12.

Firefighters performed a road accident rescue simulation and visitors were able to meet Celt, the service’s specially trained urban search and rescue dog, with his handler watch manager Kevin Hughes.

Pembroke Dock Young Firefighters also entertained the crowd with displays and drills.

There was also a raffle, stall, face painting and a ‘duck the firefighter’ game which all helped raise more than £530 for The Firefighters’ Charity.

Firefighter Gary Smith, who organised the open day, said: “We raised some much-needed funds for the charity, which is important to us because of what they do for injured firefighters’ and their families.

“The open day was also a good chance to integrate with the community - a lot of people don’t know what we do as a community fire station and it was a good opportunity for getting the fire safety message across.

“It was a very successful day. Thanks to everyone – including a number of local businesses - who helped make the day such a success.”
