GOODBYES are always hard but it was with immense pride that Golden Grove School bid its year six pupils a fond farewell at the end of the school term.

“We recognise their achievements, their politeness and their contribution to our school,” said Golden Grove School headteacher Les Johnson at the end-of-term awards ceremony.

He thanked the year six teachers, Miss Denton and Miss Williams for their hard work over the past year.

Paying tribute to all the staff of the school, Mr Johnson said much of their work was often unseen but never unrecognised.

Prizes were awarded across the key stage two classes for sporting and academic achievements, as well as respect, endeavour, attendance and many others.

Pembroke deputy mayor Councillor Waters, who brought with her the best wishes of the mayor, Cllr Aaron Carey and Pembroke Town Council, presented the awards.

Pupils from the two year six classes performed sketches about their time at school, followed by a tea party.

Achievements are recognised on a weekly basis at the school.

Four pupils from years five and six took came joint third in Winning Voices, a national script writing competition for Welsh learners.

Teacher Stephanie Watton said “Their work was of a very good standard and their success at a national level is a worthy reward for their efforts.”

Sixteen year four pupils have been following the British Red Cross Life.Live It award which teaches children first aid skills.

Miss Watton added: “The children have worked extremely hard to complete this course and have gained a wealth of invaluable skills”.
