CARNIVAL fever took over the streets of St Davids on Saturday, August 23.

Locals and visitors came out in their masses to see the parade which set off from Oriel y Parc and headed down a packed High Street.

This year it was made up of a lively brass band, the local fire engine and coastguard rescue team, fancy dressed walkers, a St Davids circus and grannies sleepover float, plus the vehicles carrying the Carnival and Rose Queens and their attendants.

The procession led to the rugby field where a host of attractions were waiting, including a fun fair, car boot sale and bungee run.

The Mayor of St Davids, Councillor David Halse had the unenviable task of judging the fancy dress competitions.

Keeley Rose, a member of the organising committee, said: “The day was a great success and the feedback from families and visitors was that everyone had a brilliant day.

“There was lots going on for the children and although organising it takes a lot of time and effort, it really is worth it when everyone enjoys themselves.”

She added: "We (the carnival committee) obviously took a risk by changing the date from the bank holiday Monday to the Saturday, but we were proved right and there were bigger crowds than usual on the street, and we also got lucky with the weather.

"This has laid the foundation for next year and we will be keeping it on the Saturday. Thank you to everyone who took part, visited, or helped out."
