THERE seems to be no quenching a Fishguard woman’s thirst for knowledge as she picks up her second learning award of the year.

Futureworks customer Patricia Leahy has been named Learner of the Year at the recent Pembrokeshire County Council Employer Connect Awards.

Part of Pembrokeshire County Council's Regeneration service, Futureworks supported Patricia through her time with the Experience Counts project.

The Big Lottery Funded Life Skills Project aims to help older people get back into work by offering a range of supportive and skills opportunities.

"Patricia is a well deserved winner of this award," said Kathy Payne, Futureworks Personal Advisor.

"She has inspired staff and other customers on the project since day one; overcoming some serious health problems to learn, volunteer and support communities and people in the County."

Kathy Payne said that although Patricia's health conditions were on some days debilitating, she approached the learning course with enthusiasm, attending training courses and developing her job-seeking skills and applying for work.

This is not the first time Patricia has been recognised by the local authority.

Back in June she was named the Trainee Learner in the 2014 Learner of the Year awards scheme.

She was chosen for successfully completing a wide range of training including IT and a Welsh language course.

Patricia also took on the role of Digital Champion with the Communities 2.0 project which involves travelling around the county helping other learners improve their IT skills.
