ANOTHER summer of Solva regattas has gone by, with each event blessed with perfect conditions.

The season kicked off on June 22 with the sailing regatta, followed by the inshore regatta on July 20.

More recently was the 56th annual children’s regatta, held on August 19.

Large crowds gathered along the quayside to cheer on the young competitors in a variety of swimming, rowing, lifesaving and kayak races.

The event with the most entrants was the silly jump, with the youngsters showing no fear in performing spectacular manoeuvres into the water.

The contestant gaining most points across the more skilful swimming and rowing events was Oliver Jones.

Rounding of the regatta season was the hugely popular raft race on August 22.

Ten teams of four were set the task of building a raft in just 45 minutes. If it survived the test of the water, three members had to paddle it to the other side of the harbour to rescue a four member, then paddle back.

The designs differed widely and out of the 10 rafts that started, the committee had to disqualify six teams for rule infringement and blatant cheating. The well deserving winners were ‘The Nanters’, comprising Rob Brodie, Josh Bland, Josh Phillips and Ifor Thomas.
