A WARM and friendly welcome awaits visitors to the Pembroke Dock’s very own Community Hub.

Call in whether you want to learn how to knit, get involved in the local food co-op or even just for a cup of tea and a chat.

Add to that the opportunity to purchase high quality second hand goods, such as clothing, books and homeware.

Run entirely by a merry band volunteers, the hub has been going for around seven years, moving to its current base on Dimond Street a couple of years ago.

The hub also provided a base for one of Wales’ first Men’s Sheds projects, before the group moved to building 47 in the Dockyard.

The chairman Yvonne Earl said: “We’re keen to see the hub well used by the community.

“What annoys me is when people walk passed and think it’s just knitting that goes on in there - we’re so much more than that. We recently held a party for autistic children and had a great time.

“We have lots of people calling for a cup of tea and a chat because they are lonely.

“One lady comes in once a week and puts a pound in our box, sits for about an hour and a half, has a couple of cups of tea, tells us all the news and then she goes.”

Yvonne added: "It’s fun being involved here. We’re people people, and the more people we get coming in the better."

Jean Murray and Bina Kingston both volunteer at the hub.

Jean said: “We’re both widows and we like the company. I enjoy the knitting, because if I don’t knit I just go around the bend.”

Bina added: “We have a good laugh and we love meeting new people.”

The hub is open Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, except for Wednesday when it is closed all day.
