COUNCILLORS were unanimous in approving plans for a 16 hectare solar park in Pembroke last week.

Members of the Planning and Rights of Way Committee met on Tuesday, September 9 to discuss the proposal by HIVE Energy Limited to site solar panels on land east of Mylett’s Hill, Golden Hill.

The application came with a recommendation for approval subject to conditions, which included temporary consent for 25 years.

No objections were received from statutory consultees and no letters of representations were received. Pembroke Town Council supported the proposal.

Addressing councillors on behalf of the applicant, Peta Donkin said the solar park’s impact on the landscape would be limited.

She said HIVE Energy wanted to be a good neighbour and had written and offered to meet all local residents, with their feedback being incorporated into the proposal.

She added that an orchard was included in the plans for use of the community.

Councillor Keith Lewis said he very much welcomed the way the applicant had entered into clear negotiations. He did, however, raise concerns about guidance on land classification, saying the land is not suitable for such a development.

Cllr Brian Hall’s motion to approve the application, in line with the officer’s recommendation, was seconded by Cllr Ken Rowlands. The vote was unanimous in favour.
