SOLVA Woollen Mill was packed last Wednesday afternoon for the launch of two news books by Jackie Morris.

Something about a Bear and Cat Walk are the latest offerings from the award-winning local author and Illustrator.

Jackie said: “I love my book launches at the mill. It’s my favourite place.

“I have a unique partnership with the owner Anna Grime. The mill is the only place where you can order my books online, signed and dedicated by me.

“We get people coming from as far away at Cumbria for the launches, and last year somebody came from America to buy a painting.”

Anna said: “It was one of the most successful launches yet. It was very positively received.

“Jackie is a hidden talent tucked away in Pembrokeshire. She’s such an interesting character and I love her writing and illustrations.”

Something About a Bear sees Jackie return to the very first book she wrote and illustrated. It includes pictures of the world’s eight bear species.

Jackie said: “In a couple of week’s time I am off to Scotland to see brown bears and if I’m lucky I’m going to be taking some honeycomb to feed them.”

Cat Walk sees Jackie take on a completely different project. It is a book of Jackie’s photographs of cats in the beautiful Pembrokeshire landscape.

Jackie said: “The book is not really about cats. It’s about being able to find beauty and things to write about on your doorstep and watching the seasons change.”
