COMMUNITIES neighbouring a new solar farm to the west of Crundale are to benefit from a £50,000 funding pot.

The money has been provided the renewable energy developers, vogt solar and Solafields.

The companies have set up a Community Benefit Fund to share the benefits of the solar farm – which is currently under construction - with local residents.

Once operational, the development will generate 31.28 MW AC of renewable energy, which is enough to provide power to 9,200 homes via the National Grid.

The fund has gone towards roof repairs and a roof-mounted solar PV system at Clarbeston Road Memorial Hall, works related to the new Multi Use Games Area, plus a roof-mounted solar PV system at Crundale Community Hall, roof repairs at St Aidans VA School in Wiston and new changing facilities at Clarbeston Road AFC.

Mark Candlish, Managing Director of Solafields said:, “We’re very happy to be able to support these important local projects, which will bring improvements to community buildings and provide new facilities. We’re equally pleased to be providing solar panels to help them become more sustainable and energy efficient, and also to gain an annual income from the Feed In Tariffs.”

Speaking on behalf of Crundale Community Hall, Councillor Steve Yelland said: “The Community Benefit Fund has been an excellent way for us to complete the financing of a new games area for everyone in the village, particularly children. Along with installing solar panels on the roof of the Hall, this means that the money provided has created a lasting benefit to the whole community.”
