PLANS are in the pipeline to refurbish a residential home for the elderly in Goodwick.

The future of Hillside was discussed at the County Council’s Older Person’s Committee last month.

The Director of Adult Care, Pam Marsden outlined plans to refurbish a number of rooms at Hillside which are currently not able to be used.

It would create a number of re-ablement beds - some with en-suite facilities. A new lift would be installed and some of the personal care areas within the home would be upgraded to support people who need support either to come out of hospital or to avoid a hospital admission.

The service is aimed at patients who are ready to leave hospital but are unable to be discharged for a variety of reasons, for people living at home and at risk of inappropriate admission to acute care or residential care, and those considering returning home from residential care.

These may include people who need, and have the potential to benefit from, a period of re-ablement support to build their confidence and independence in a safe, warm and comfortable environment, which provides access to care and support, prior to them being ready to return to their own home, as well as those who are unable to return home, as their accommodation is currently unsuitable or unsafe for their needs.

The re-ablement beds would be supported by the community occupational therapists and are intended to be flexible to respond various needs.

It is intended that the refurbishment works will be paid for by capital funding from the Welsh Government’s Intermediate Care Fund (ICF).

The funding will also provide day rehabilitation/ resource facilities to support people who need care and or support. The concept is for a resource with a range of facilities to support people to hopefully maintain their independence and live in their own homes.
