YOUNGTERS at POINT got a slice of the action at Fishguard’s Autumn Festival by making and serving their own tasty pizzas.

Everyone at the youth drop-in centre wanted to get involved in the six day festival after Fishguard and District Round Table kindly donated £300 towards the creation of their clay oven.

A total of 10 youngsters underwent training in pizza preparation to cater for members of the public at their Pop Up Pizzeria evening on Thursday, October 30.

They worked very hard alongside POINT staff and Richard Vaughan from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park all summer to help to make the beautiful wood-fired oven which makes delicious and authentic Italian pizzas.

Jetse Martin a staff member at POINT said: “The garden project has been the highlight of the summer activities programme, particularly the clay oven as the young people have played a big part of building the structure, which was a very popular activity. This project has then lead to an enterprise initiative where the young people have learned catering skills in food preparation and serving to members of the public”.

Due to the Pop Up Pizzeria being advertised in the Round Table’s Autumn Festival programme, the POINT staff and youngsters were very busy serving members of the public all evening.

All the profits made from the event were given directly to the 10 youngsters who all went home with £14 in their pockets.

Callum Bather, young person of POINT said: “I learned how to make pizzas in the way that Italians make them. I enjoyed it because it was very creative and totally mind-blowing.”
