TAKE to the skies with aerial archaeologist, Dr Toby Driver to discover some of Pembrokeshire’s hidden gems.
Cropmarks, Rings and Hill forts: The Hidden Iron Age of Pembrokeshire from the air will see Dr Driver take the audience on an aerial tour of the hidden or inaccessible prehistoric settlements of Pembrokeshire.
Castell Henllys manager Rhonwen Owen said: “The evidence of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s rich Iron Age history can be seen all around us; however this talk will provide a glimpse into the previously unknown, as Dr Driver reveals how aerial photography can help uncover previously undiscovered forts and settlements.
“Those interested in the talk should also visit Castell Henllys to see our fantastic replica Iron Age roundhouses, built right on top of the excavated remains of an existing hill fort, dating back 2,400 years.”
The talk will start by looking at some of the great hill forts and what we can learn from aerial photographs, before showcasing some of the stunning crop mark discoveries of lost hill forts and settlements which have been made across Pembrokeshire in the drought summers of 2013 and 2014.
Dr Driver will then look at Pembrokeshire’s Iron Age coastal promontory forts, before crossing the sea to explore the offshore Iron Age landscapes of Skomer and Grassholm Islands.
The talk takes place Castell Henllys Iron Age Village on Wednesday, November 12 at 7.30pm.
